ABOUT BAILEY:
We’re stoked to have Bailey back for his second season as a kiteboarding instructor here at WA SURF. Hailing from Exmouth, Devon in the UK, Bailey grew up just a short walk from one of the country’s top kiting spots. He first got into kiteboarding at 13, inspired by a family with a love for watersports - his parents own a watersports company in Exmouth, and his cousins include world-champion kiteboarders and Red Bull athletes. Despite the freezing UK weather, Bailey would head out whenever he could, building up some serious skills along the way.
Bailey kicked off his coaching career in Cornwall, a beautiful spot but with winds that are unpredictable. He holds a BSKA Level 2 qualification and loves teaching freeride and freestyle. Before he got hooked on kiteboarding, Bailey was all about sailing. He started at age five and even taught sailing for a while, so getting into kiteboarding instructing was a natural next step. After his first season with us at WA SURF, he spent three months kiting across Europe. But coming back to WA was an easy choice - between the awesome wind and perfect conditions, he couldn’t wait to teach here again.
Bailey’s favourite kite spot? Boa Vista in Cape Verde. He had an epic kite trip there, hitting up empty, stunning beaches with a 4WD – a rare experience to enjoy such beautiful spots all to himself and his crew.
For anyone just starting out, Bailey’s advice is simple: patience is key. “Kiting can be tough to learn, but once you get it, it’s like riding a bike—you just get it.” Teaching is a way for Bailey to stay in the sport, especially after a few injuries from his more daring kiting days. He’s all about helping his students experience the adrenaline of kiteboarding in a safe, supportive environment.
We’re excited to have Bailey back on the WA SURF team, bringing his experience, passion, and good vibes to The Pond this season.
